Fishing Creel Course
Tuesdays, 6-8.30pm, 5th May until 16th June (no session on June 2nd).
NB. This course is designed for intermediate basketmakers, defined as those who have made a few round and oval baskets and have a good understanding of the core techniques of waling, shaping baskets, English or French Randing, and at least some experience of using a knife (e.g. to slype uprights or in other projects e.g. whittling). Please do not sign up if the above doesn't describe you - feel free to email me to chat if you're unsure.
Weaving a fishing creel is a brilliant way to build skills. The course will cover Scalloming (a very handy and versatile way of attaching stakes/uprights), herringbone waling, English Randing, packing, borders on square corners, precisely fitted frame lids, and cranked and roped willow hinges and toggles. You'll make one creel in class, and one at home.
